One month to go until Sport Events Congress 2003!

Ottawa, March 3, 2003 - With just one month to go until Sport Events Congress 2003, preparations are nearing completion for Canada’s largest annual gathering of sport, tourism organizations, event management firms and other industry professionals.

The content of this year’s event, scheduled for April 3 – 5 at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa, has been developed around the theme of event sponsorship. The Congress features a collection of invited speakers including Michael Merrall, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, IMG Canada; Nick Marrone, Executive Director, Marketing & Development, Canadian Olympic Committee; and Ken Allen, Sport Marketing Manager, Nike Canada.

Delegates will be treated to best-practices presentations, keynote speakers, networking socials and the business-to-business Sport Events Exchange, an events marketplace where municipalities have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with representatives of national sport organizations to explore hosting opportunities. Attendees at last year’s event had this to say:

“The Sport Events Exchange is the best initiative I have seen to assist sport organizations match their respective event properties with Canadian host communities. An outstanding win/win initiative for both sport and tourism partners.” Peter Montopoli, CEO, The Skating Events Trust

“The on-on-one meetings during the Sport Events Exchange were absolutely wonderful!” Lori Lopez, Membership Director, Canadian Adult Recreational Hockey Association

“It was my sincere pleasure and privilege to attend your Congress. Congratulations on your Gold Medal performance!” Marian Stuffco, Past President, Synchro Canada

Additional Congress highlights include: opening keynote address by Paul DeVillers, Secretary of State (Amateur Sport); a presentation on Communications Canada’s re-vamped national Sponsorship Program for sport and cultural events; and a STEAM (Sport Tourism Economic Assessment Model) Training Workshop scheduled for Saturday, April 5th (for CSTA members only).
